POSTER COMPETITION INSTRUCTIONS

The poster competition at the 11th US National Congress on Computational Mechanics will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 27th (specific time to be distributed by the end of June).  Participants of the poster session should note the following:

-Please make your poster no larger than 3.5’ Width x 4’ Height.  There is limited space for posters and if your posters is larger than these dimensions we may not be able to accommodate it.

-We will not be able to print your poster at the conference venue.  Please make arrangements to have your poster printed or please bring your poster with you to the congress.

-A poster template (ppt file) may be downloaded here.  While you are not required to use this template, you are strongly encouraged to do so, as it will allow the competition judges to more easily evaluate your poster in the allotted time.

-Posters will be mounted the day of the competition at the time noted in the program.  Please quickly find your assigned poster board and mount your poster at soon as the poster room is open.  Also, if possible, please bring your own tacks with which to mount your poster.  We will have a limited amount of tacks available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

-If you have submitted an abstract for a poster, but have decided not to participate in the competition, please notify us by June 15, 2011 by e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

USNCCM-11 Student Poster Competition

USNCCM-11 invites interested graduate and undergraduate students in various fields associated with computational mechanics such as engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, nanosciences, and allied disciplines to present a poster during the student poster session.  This is an excellent opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to meet with, learn from, and discuss their research work with world leaders from a variety of fields.

To enter the poster competition, the presenting author must be a full-time graduate or undergraduate student who has made a substantial contribution to the presented work.  In addition to the poster competition, students may submit an abstract to present a talk in an appropriate minisymposium, giving them further visibility at the congress.  Students who are part of the poster competition and present their work as part of a minisymposium are further eligible to receive a travel grant to attend the congress.  Several awards are planned to be given at the congress, and the poster competition will be judged by a panel of 3-5 expert scientists from academia, government, and industry with $500 honorarium as well as commemorative plaques awarded to selected outstanding posters.  The poster competition is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 27, with the awards to be announced during the closing ceremony of the congress.

Abstract submission for the poster competition will open on December 15, 2010, and will close on February 18, 2011 (new closing date).  To submit an abstract for the poster competition, go to the abstract submission page and enter your abstract under Minisymposium #15.1.  Questions regarding the student poster competition may be directed to Dr. Chris Hogan at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
